GROUP DESCRIPTION
Parents will learn and practice skills from SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions), an evidence-based parent-based treatment, to effectively and compassionately help their child/ teen overcome anxiety, OCD, and related problems. Some of the main anxiety problems that can be treated with SPACE include, but are not limited to the following:
- Avoidant restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID), and other eating disorders w/ an anxiety component, such as anorexia nervosa
- Generalized anxiety
- Social anxiety
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Fears and phobias
- Panic disorder and agoraphobia
- Separation anxiety
- Selective mutism
Parents will also get the benefit of participating in an online community, where they will be able to share experiences and connect with others for support and companionship.
Note: This group is not meant to be psychotherapy or a replacement for psychotherapy. Families will be expected to have at least one supporting provider- MD, RD, or therapist. Prior to the first group meeting, all families will complete a phone consultation to determine eligibility, current needs, and to help us create a more personalized group experience.
